Robert Pattinson: “I Like Taking Jobs of Younger Actors. I Want to Play 17 Again”

Robert Pattinson

Robert Pattinson isn’t ready to give up teenage roles just yet. During a Vanity Fair lie detector test with his Die My Love co-star Jennifer Lawrence, the actor joked that he would happily take parts away from the next generation of stars.

The moment came when Pattinson was asked whether he would return as Edward Cullen if the Safdie brothers directed a new Twilight movie. He said yes, and when Lawrence pushed back, he doubled down with a grin: “It’d be great. I like taking jobs of younger actors… I wanna play 17 again.”

The line is a nod to Zac Efron’s 2009 comedy 17 Again, and to the fact that Pattinson was in his early twenties when he played the forever-17 vampire in 2008’s Twilight. Best of all, the polygraph examiner ruled that he was telling the truth.

Gen Z or Millennial?

The playful back-and-forth didn’t stop there. Pattinson also insisted that he counts as Gen Z, prompting Lawrence to set the record straight: “You’re not Gen Z, you’re a millennial.” The pair’s chemistry made the video one of the more entertaining entries in the long-running series.

Will There Be Another Twilight?

Don’t get your hopes up just yet. No new Twilight film has been announced, and Pattinson’s schedule is packed. He is set to return as Bruce Wayne in The Batman Part II, due in 2027, and is part of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three.

Still, if a director ever wants a 40-year-old Edward Cullen, it sounds like Pattinson is ready to answer the call.
