Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal Swapped Avengers: Doomsday Costumes for Halloween

Talk about a Halloween crossover. Robert Downey Jr. and Pedro Pascal traded places this year, dressing up as each other’s characters from Avengers: Doomsday.

In a video Downey shared on Instagram, the former Iron Man wears Reed Richards’ blue Fantastic Four suit. Pascal, meanwhile, went full villain as Doctor Doom, complete with a flowing cape and the iconic silver mask.

Why the Swap Is So Funny

The joke works because the two are set to face off on screen. Pascal plays Reed Richards, the brilliant leader of the Fantastic Four, a role he first took on in The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Downey, meanwhile, makes one of the most talked-about returns in Marvel history as Victor Von Doom.

When Marvel announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024 that the man who launched the MCU as Tony Stark would come back as its next big villain, the room erupted. Since then, fans have been counting down to seeing Doom and Reed share the screen.

Seeing the two stars swap roles, even for a few seconds, gave everyone a playful preview of a rivalry Marvel has been building toward for months.

Fans Loved Every Second

Unsurprisingly, the internet went wild. Comment sections filled up with fans joking that Marvel should just recast the film on the spot, while others simply enjoyed seeing two of Hollywood’s most likable stars clearly having fun together.

It also fits the tone the cast has set throughout the press cycle. Behind the scenes, the Doomsday team has leaned into teasing fans rather than giving anything away, and a Halloween costume swap is about as harmless a tease as it gets.

Avengers: Doomsday, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, hits theaters on December 18. Moments like this only make the wait feel longer.
